A New Start

While the Conservative Party's vote held up in Scotland on May 3rd, no-one should claim that it represented significant progress for us. The Party in England is in a process of change and I think it is right that the Conservative Party in Inverness embraces change as well.

Of course, we offer our congratulations to Mary and Jamie on their victories in the regional list and offer our commiserations to Jamie Johnston for the fight for the regional seat. It was a spirited campaign that undoubtedly points to well-earned future success for him.

This interactive, open web site is part of that process of changing and its aim is to encourage people (whether they be supporters or otherwise) to engage with us.

More importantly we need to look at the role of the Conservatives in a modern Inverness and examine what people would like of us. Politics isn't a hugely respected calling these days but nevertheless people have concerns about schools, hospitals, roads, the environment, their jobs and so forth.

The route the Inverness Conservatives will take in the coming years will be determined after talking with people from all walks of life, from 'Natural Tories' through to people who are traditionally seen as unsympathetic to the Party. Through this, I want to build a local Party that has positive solutions to today's issues.

In the next few weeks I hope to have assembled a draft proposal of changes I believe the local party can make that will have significant consequences so I invite you all to watch this space and to let me know what you think. Comments are open to everyone.

I know that 'change' is one of those words that signifies much but is often vague in specifics. For those of you sceptical about 'change', click on the image below:

Hi there

How are you letting people know that this blog exists?

For example I haven't noticed any comments on other Scottish political-type blogs linking back here? I haven't been reading comments on ConservativeHome.com much of late, but I haven't noticed any comments there either.

Actually Bill, I had you on my list of people to contact today but you beat me to the punch.

Excuses, excuses but...I've been tied up working on a a project for the Scottish Executive requiring long hours and tunnel vision...but unlike some public projects, this one was delivered on time and on budget! Blogging has suffered though as a result.

I've got a rash of articles to be written this afternoon so watch this space....
